Frank Calvin was born in San Francisco, California to parents Emric and Ruth Calvin on October 4, 1965.Shortly after he was born, Frank and his family moved to Vallejo, California, where Frank was raised. Frank prides himself in being a “PK,” or Preacher’s Kid, because his father, the Late Emric A. Calvin, was the Pastor of Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Vallejo, California.
In being such an active part of church ministry, Frank had his first musical experiences at the tender age of 7 years old. Young Frank began exploring a variety of the instruments used in church worship. He first learned to play the drums and the piano for the church. Then, one day, Frank’s father placed a bass guitar in his hand, and Frank’s love for music soared to new heights! Frank knew from that moment forward that music was going to be a part of his destiny.
Frank’s love for playing instruments motivated Frank to develop his vocal, song-writing, musical arrangement, and production abilities. Frank’s singing career began when he joined a group known as Ron Cooley and Deliverance in 1984. As his experiences in and his exposure to the musical world continued to grow, Frank found him self creating music for gospel music royalty such as Edwin Hawkins and the Edwin Hawkins Music Seminar. Throughout his career, Frank Calvin has performed with world-renowned gospel recording artists such as Tremaine Hawkins, John P. Kee, Norman Hutchins, Shirley Caesar, and Keith Pringle, just to name a few.
